Check for Signed Drivers

In order for DirectX games to run on your system, the latest DirectX drivers need to be properly installed. The program DXDIAG.EXE is a utility that will check driver certification and let you know if all DirectX components are properly certified. In most instances if a video driver is not working properly, it is best to seek the advice of the manufacturer of the computer or of the manufacturer of the video card itself. Running DXDIAG is easy, just follow these steps:

1. Left click on the START button and choose RUN
2. In the Dialog box that appears type the word DXDIAG then click OK.
You should now see the DXDIAG window.  Click on the tab labeled Display. You should see a version number in the right hand section of the window and whether or not your display driver is certified or has a WHQL logo.  A WHQL logo indicates the driver has been tested by Microsoft, and that the driver has not been modified since it has been tested.  Note that newer Windows 98 and Windows Millennium drivers may lack this logo, as driver testing is no longer performed on these operating systems.

If your video card driver is out of date, or does not have a WHQL logo, you can check your video card manufacturer's website for a newer driver.  Contact either your computer or video card manufacturer, or visit their web site for assistance in locating a newer driver.
